Have a customer on a 5000 with a remote office using IP phones. They are wondering if they can hook a fax machine up to use on their system, does Mitel make a device that will act as an IP endpoint but convert to analog extension for a fax?

thanks, Jim

Haven't tried it, but maybe a sip ata with T.38 would work. The 5000 does support T.38 faxing and if you change the settings, it requires a reboot.

Hmm...haven't thought of that...I wonder if the IP paging unit could be turned into an "IP ATA"?

No the IP paging Unit cannot be used for analog

You need a SIP media converter

I've had good success with the cisco SP112 which are reasonably priced

Thanks for the info, to your knowledge, would there be any system license needed for something like this SIP endpoint?

What about having them get an actual copper line into the remote office? Then you could dual purpose it for faxing and as a local 911 route via an MP-114 or someting similar.

I have extended an analog port over mpls using Grandstream HT503 and HT502 devices and was able to fax using the remote side trunking. This was on a 3300. The Grandstreams used T.38 between them.
