Hi folks.... question??

How does DHCP work on the Mitel 5000 HX 5.1?

Can it be a DHCP server? Looking for more info on this?
trying to look at documentation as well...

thanks

So would I have to do a static on the phones? or can they get an IP from the customers DHCP and where do I find the options they would need?

Thanks alot

Hi,

The only way I have done it is via a windows server using DHCP options. Please see below taken from a Mitel guide on what you require to run via DHCP

DHCP IP Addressing
The 86xx IP Phones use DHCP Option 66 for the TFTP Address (5000 Controller IP Address) and UDP Discovery (Broadcast) for the Call Control Connectivity.
The 52xx/53xx IP Phones can use various DHCP options to obtain all the information required to communicate and work with the 5000 Controller.
The oldest method was to program options 128 – 136 for various information that the IP Phone needed to operate. These options have reverted back to pre-assigned status so two new methods were developed. If the local DHCP Server can not support the recommended option 125, then option 43 can be used. The preferred method is to program option 125. Both options 43 and 125 use an ASCII string of data to convey the information required by the IP Phone.
Setting Several Options (Older method but still supported)

Options 128 and 129: Option 128 provides the TFTP address, and Option 129 provides call control information. Both should be set to the IP address of the 5000 Controller.

Option 130: Type the text string “MITEL IP PHONE” (case sensitive, no quotes).
Mitel also has two additional options to consider if placing these phones on a separate VLAN.

Option 132: Type the integer “Vlan #” and set to “VLAN for IP Phone.”

Option 133: Type the integer “6” and set to “Priority on Vlan.” If using option 132, you must use option 133.
Setting a Single Option (Dependant on DHCP Server)
Use the Windows-provided Vendor Specific Option 43 or use Custom Vendor Identifying, Vendor Specific Option 125. Type the following ASCII character string, after clicking once in the ASCII column:

id:ipphone.mitel.com;sw_tftp=<Mitel 5000 base server IP address>;call_srv=<Mitel 5000 Controller’s IP address>;vlan=1;l2p=6;dscp=46
The Vendor Identifying portion of option 125 is Mitel Vendor ID 1027.

I just static the 5000's IP into the endpoints IPC & TFTP settings, and let the endpoint use the LAN DHCP to aquire an address and connect.
