I am a huge fan of the Mitel 5000. That being said, am I the only one that thinks that the two port ethernet HUB on the back of the unit is antiquated and useless?

I think the could at least make it a two port switch, and at best, make it two separate subnet access ports; one for OAM management and the other for a telephony LAN.

Any thoughts?

Jim

I think they will make one side a WAN and the other side a LAN a bit like on the IP Office. Hopefully both freely configurable allowing routes between the two. (again like the IP Office)

At least it's gigabit on the HX unlike the old CS!

Re-reading your post, is it actually a HUB? If it is it would actually work brilliantly for fault finding, stick wireshark on your laptop and capture all the packets going to and from the Mitel.

Yes it is a hub...hmm...I didn't think of wireshark to trouble shoot IP...maybe it isn't as stupid as I have thought, seeing how difficult it is to find a hub these days to capture IP data using Ethereal or Wireshark...

Thanks NTEDave!

jeepers guys you not heard of port mirroring ? personally i love the 5000 but i still can not comprehend why it does not have DHCP built in !!

If its not broke tweak it..

You've got to have a switch or router that supports port mirroring though!

If the port works as crowtalks says it's a brilliant fault finding tool.

I was at Mitel in Wales last week talking to the fella that does the 5000 training, DHCP is in coming in Release 6 :)

well yes true, i keep one spare just for this reason but to be honest it does not get used much..

If its not broke tweak it..
