Ok so I have an excell sheet with 12000 names and numbers and I want to add them to the telephone directory so users can access these from there handsets,

I figured out you have to add the number first as a speedcall before it will allow you to enter it into the telephone directory, that parts fine, i create my import sheet update all my records and go to import the 12000 speedcalls but the problem i face is it gets to 1000 and then says its full is this a system limitation or is there a better way of doing what i what i want to achieve.

so my way of doing it sofar is : Company A 02081237987

So I would add system speed call 10001 - 02081237987
Telephone directory add name : Company A Number : 10001

Is this the correct way of doint it assing the external number to a speed call and then set a tlephone directoy for that nam e to that speed call number .

I need to add 12000 records !

Are you wanting to add 12000 Speed Calls?
The maximum is only 1000 I think.

As the message is telling you, it is a system limitation.

I dont really want to add 12000 speed calls but i want to add 12000 names and numbers to the telephone directory but to add to the directory it needs to be added as a speedcall, i thought anyway unless there is another way of achieving this,
Basically i want my users to be able to got the telephone directory on there handset to be able to ring clients but we have 12000 clients

I don't think that is going to be possible as you will need a valid directory number to associate a name to it.

You can't just program a phonebook entry that I'm aware.

Yes you can (according to the help)


Most dialable numbers may be listed. The term "dialable number" means any complete number that may be dialed from a station. These numbers include:

Mitel telephones

Attendant Console directory numbers

Attendant Console softkey and Broadcast Group numbers

Multicall group numbers

Key System group numbers

External numbers up to 26 digits in length that have an ARS path.

Hunt Group Pilot or Directory Numbers

System Speed Call Numbers

Industry standard telephones

You can also do alpha tagging from within here and dial out from that entry as well I believe. You also have to preceed the number with a 9 as well if not alpha tagging.

OK just had a bit of a look, your right. I've even programmed it in my system without realising it.

Try programming your entry in this format.

ARS Code + ~ + External number.
e.g. 9~02081237987
This is also used for alpha tagging.

Not sure how many entries this will allow.

these are the system capacities from the tech handbook

System Speed Call (10-3000) 1000 / 2000 (see note 1)
Telephone Directory Entries (55-65000) 20000 / 30000 (see note 1)

Note 1: Default value (larger number) when 250 Maximum Elements Per Cluster is selected.

I think you will need to use the import spreadsheet to create a telephone directory import csv file.
with that many entries , I would suggest the following.
Create a system backup first
use a small exammple csv file as a test case to make sure it is formatted properly.
Import the large file , if it works well done, if not restore the backup.

If the numbers are dialable via ARS you should be able to name them. If they are a customer number (or some other non dialable number) you should be able to enter a ARS entry and then name them. With your example of you could enter 02 with an unknown number of digits to follow out a phantom route. You would then be able to enter names for any 02 entries(Note this will conflict with Dial 0). If you need other numbers or numbers conflict with actual numbers you could add a * or # in front of the ARS entry *02 or #02 and let you users know to ignore the * or #. Again * or # may be in use already so you will need to check first.
