Hi I am trying to upgrade a mx controller currently on 8.0.5.12 going to 8.0.9.20, i just wanted to confirm that i do not need a new password from the AMC as i do not have access to this customers AMC records.
I have downloaded 8.0.9.20 and installed it on my laptop which is running FTP, but when i try upgrading via the 8.0 sw installer tool it logs in to the 3300 ok, but when it says testing FTP connection it fails saying there is no 3300 load found on this computer check the FTP connection.

The software is installed in C:\Inetpub\ftproot

If i do a manual install will i need the cuurent licence password as i do not have it.Any ideas....

You don't need a new password. Uncheck Licensing in the SI tool.
Be sure your PC has a static address on the same subnet as the 3300.
i,e, If the controller was 192.168.1.2 use 192.168.1.250 for the PC. This assumes that .250 is not being used anywhere else in the subnet.

On the laptop try FTP'ing back into itself with the address and credentials for the dos prompt.

I suspect that the FTP is either not running or that a windows firewall/ virus checker or some such security is preventing access.

The SWI tool will not require licensing for the upgrade you want.

What's most important is that you realise ... There is no spoon.

Do you have IIS installed? What is the home directory for FTP services? Is it also set for the IP of your laptop? Shut off windows firewall. If you have a VPN client check that any firewall associated with it if off.

The single biggest problem with communications is the illusion that it has taken place.
