I've got two 5224 IP sets, both with 5448 Programmable Key Modules with one already in place as a Reception phone.

The plan is to set the second phone up in another part of th building as a secondary Reception.

What I'm after is, someone (external) rings extension 400 (original 5224/5448 set), however the Receptionist is already dealing with a call on that number.

I want the call to then route to extension 424 (the secondary set) to be answered by the secondary Receptionist.

I have been looking at Hunt Groups but feel I'm heading in the wrong direction.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Software revisions matter to tell us what options there are

We also need the ENTIRE call flow
What happens if both don't answer
What happens in night mode
What happens when X

A Ring Group might get you what you need instead of a hunt group. You'll want to include system type & version in the future for the best response.

Thanks for the input guys.

Release Level: 4.2 SP2 PR1
Platform MXe, 512MB RAM

Call flow: External call comes in on 400 (primary number). Receptionist then connects call to user via 5448 key unit. If the primary number is busy, I need the incoming call to shift to 424 (secondary number). If both numbers are in use, it will then need to fall over to another number (yet undecided).

Ring group still looking ok

Will this EVER need to go to VM? Night or otherwise?

If so, RG not the best and other options would be best

You could use multicall buttons of 400 on the other reception phone then they can both handle as many calls as you program buttons.

Then the diversion of they both dont answer can be reroute 1st alternative to wherever you choose.

Voice mail is not required as both phones will either be manned or on night service.

Hunt Group would work also as well as cascade ring on ring group. Depends on what you want to do on no answer if that occours?

Hunt groups are not a good idea - you cannot route to the next station on no answer.

I do hunt groups all the time for when Main numbers ring in...
I program "phantom" (non-DID) numbers on the keys to a phone - usually on the Even numbered buttons.
For instance extension 400: Phone only (don't care about the PKM at this point). The ??? also mean that I'm not concerned with the DN or button assignment.
k24=??? k23=???
k22=??? k21=???
k20=??? k19=???
k18=??? k17=???
k16=??? k15=???
k14=??? k13=???
k12=??? k11=???
k10=??? k9=???
k8= L4 (ext 504) k7=???
k6= L3 (ext 503) k5=???
k4= L2 (ext 502) K3= Multicall 400
k2= L1 (ext 501) K1= Prime DN 400

On Ext 400, you'd program the above, and set them to ring or ring continuous.

Duplicate the buttons 501-504 to extension 424, set them to delay ring (adjust COS timers as needed).

Build a Hunt Group 500 and add 501-504 to it. Direct your main number to this hunt group - trunk assignments or system speedcall.

You can add the same buttons 501-504 to any phones in your organization (up to the system limit) - have them ring/delay ring/no ring, etc.

You can also place a call to this on hold, page someone that they have a call holding on "line X".

Manipulate the call handling to allow it to roll to voicemail or not... use Call rerouting - I use Call rerouting 1st alternative #1 - some tell you not to, but I do. ALL DN's are using this inherently, and I don't have to forward phones to have them go to VM. I leave CRR1st Alt#2 blank... this allows me to set a DN to use this and keep it from going to VM.
My logic is that I have more VM users than NON-VM users, so I have less to manipulate.
Use this setup to either send or not send 500 to VM.

If you send it to VM, and there isn't a mailbox 500, it will play the Auto Attendant greeting. If there is a mailbox... well you get the idea.

We do this all the time on 3300's and SX200's. Sorry, can't do it on a 5000.
