Mitel 3300 MXe random Reboots - SW Rev 8.0

Here are the logs for the time period

The customer says it is on a UPS that is in good working order

My interpretation of the logs is highlighted below

UPS is definately suspect.
If you have dual power supplies, move one to a direct AC source and monitor.

Previous to that log too.

It does not have a secondary PS and the customer is balking at the cost of installing one.

He is adamant that the UPS is fine.

My post here is to determine if there might be something else I've missed.

Connect up test pc with UPS monitoring software loaded and set it to log

That will determine whether the UPS is causing issues or not

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....

Maybe a small clock radio connected to the same power circuit, that way if it loses power it will be blinking at 12:00. [bigsmile]

Have to ask. Could it be a human doing it? Maybe a disgruntled worker or such?

Always look out for the next tech. because one day it will be you!

More likely to be the PSU on the MX; we have a couple fail like this.

Is that Power Saving Unit? Thanks. The MX is pretty dated, no?

Power Supply Unit. Yup, but one of the ones that failed was on a CX...bugger to find as well. We ended up putting a MX PSU into the CX and its still going.....

I like Sarond's idea of the clock. Its hard otherwise to say if the UPS is bad unless there are other systems plugged into it they are not rebooting.

This reminds me of a problem years ago with a Citation system that was going down each night. Ending being the cleaning lady unplugging it to plug in her vacuum.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Anyone else and you need to throw it harder.

One thing not mentioned, but worthwhile. Judging from the logs most likely not, but check to see if a scheduled reboot is on. Thanks.

@jrgood0852 - Scheduled reboots create a specific log and the reboots are at random times.

The cause code is suspect. Normally if it's power, the cause code is "POWER_ON_RESET", but your example shows up as "EXTERNAL_HARD_RESET" instead. I've seen that code on flaky LX controllers, but haven't run into it with an MXE (yet, at least). There's a possibility it's a bad controller chassis.

Thanks Lundah, that is not something I was aware of.

External hard reset does sound like it could be a human. Sorry to go there again. Is this absolutely not a possibility?

Always look out for the next tech. because one day it will be you!

@jrgood0852, there is always a degree of uncertainty and anything.

When measured with relative probability though, the likelyhood of this having a human factor is so unlikely as to be not worth considering.
