I have combed the manual but cannot figure this out.

I need to setup an MLAA and can do that successfully. But how do I direct the trunks or DID to answer the MLAA mailbox.

I tried to assign the Non-Dial in answer point to the MB but it will not allow me, not even if I assign the MB an extension. I can assign the VM hunt group DN to the trunks though, but I cannot figure out how to associate the AA with the MLAA mailbox.

You need to *forward* a number to voice mail.
There a handful of ways to do this.
1- create an extension and then go to call rerouting assignment and forward on an always condition to vm.
2- create a hunt group with the number you needs and and again in call rerouting assignment forward to vm.
3- program the number as a key on any phone and go to call rerouting assignment and forward to vm.

In the call rerouting form find the number you just added and put a '2'(typically) under Day, Night1 and Night2. If that doesn't work go to the call rerouting always alternative find the 1st vacant line (not #1) and change all the fields to 'reroute'. Then take that index number and go back to call rerouting assignment form and add it there.

First, for integration to work the mailbox needs an extension. You dial the extension, the extension routes to VM, the VM answers appropriately.

From the Phone Systems perspective, the Extension can match any valid DN (e.g. Hunt group, Extension, Keyline, etc)

I am assuming you have analog trunks based on your description above. If you want to direct dial to the MLAA then you would terminate the trunk to the DN which routes to the VM which answers with the MLAA.

I can get the AA to answer, what I can't figure out is how to get the MLAA MB to play the greeting.

This is was I have setup:
HG 6000 (VM)
MLAA 5000 - no extension assigned as per the instructions.

The system is currently in a lab environment and I have an analog station connected to an analog trunk.

If I program the Non-dial In Trunks Answer Point - Day,Night,Night2, the AA answers fine. But the MLAA does not play.

I need to have a greeting that says:
Thank You for calling....... If you know your parties ext you may dial it now for the company directory press 9.
For Sales press 1, for service press 2, etc, etc.

I know how to record the AA greeting and the MLAA greeting but how do I get the the MLAA to play after or for the 2 to work together.
If I record the For Sales press 1.. in the AA greeting it does not work. And if I try to program the Non-dial In Trunks Answer Point - Day with 5000 (MLAA) it won't allow me.

I hope I made this clear, if not let me know and I'll try to clarify.

kwbmitel-Are you saying I have to create a "dummy extension" (say 4000)and forward that to 5000 (MLAA)? But then how do I get 6000 (VM HG) to forward to that ext? Seems a bit confusiing just to get MLAA to work.

dryaquaman-I tried that but that and I can get the AA to answer but... see above.

If your MLAA is 5000 you would create a dummy extension 5000 and route the dummy extension to VM.

That being said, you are going to have issues with dial-an-ext and dial-by-name if using MLAA.

I am starting to think you may be using terminology that is confusing the issue.

What may work better for you for your more recent example is to use single digit extensions from the main AA. The main AA has dial by name and dial an ext.

Record the greeting that you describe above as the main greeting AA.

Create single digit MB 1 as transfer MB and set the extension to the DN for Sales.

Create Single digit MB 2 as transfer MB and set the extension to the DN for service.

This should give you all of the functionality you are looking for.

I see what you are saying kwbmitel. I did not even think to use 1 digit extensions. I thought there would be a way to use the MLAA like I described above but I guess not. I created a HG 5000 and was able to dial the MLAA directly but then I lose the directory feature and the extension dialing. What's the point in the MLAA then? You gain but you lose.

I have worked with other systems that the 2 work hand in hand ( After the AA greeting plays it times out and then the second part options) plays. Just doesn't make sense. I guess it's not the way it works with this system.

BTW-Just tried it while typing this and it works.

Thanks for the help.

The Embedded VM is a very basic vm with very basic features.

Can it do X? - Default answer - NO

We sometimes get fooled into thinking it is more fully featured because it has been built in bits and pieces and can do some pretty esoteric things but it still misses a lot of the basics.

Other systems that do more typically can't compete on price.

It is cheap in both meanings and I sometimes think it is intensionally flawed so as not to compete with Mitel's Nupoint too much.

If you end up using single digit mailboxes I would make 2 additional suggestions.

1 - record the name appropriately in the mailbox to work with the prompt "You are being transfered to ..."

2 - If the end point will also have a mailbox you should set the extension of the single digit MB to match a speedcall that will then dial the destination and ultimately back to VM. This avoids several issues that I won't get into right now.

Not sure why I would do this but it works fine without doing this-I will keep it in mind if and issue pops up.

I just came up with another issue but it might stem from the fact that it's a BASIC VM.

What if the customer had different dialing options during the day than at night? (I've had customer's that have a scenario like this)
I have already defined let's say MB 1 and 2. If I have a MLAA that uses MB's 1-8 then I cannot use them in the second MLAA.

Thanks for the help.

For your latest I would suggest Sub-menus

Leave the top level for Dial by name and Dial an Ext but then have a digit to access the sub-menu for further options.

The digit could then be routed to separate Day/Night MLAA mailboxes with appropriate selections. This option requires that the system actually be placed in night service and not just use the time of day messaging of the VM.

Not sure how 1 digit can get routed to 2 separate day/night MB's.

And how does the putting the system in night service comes into play.

Example:[tt]
DN 5000 = Phantom DN used for Routing
- Day Route to VM (6000)
- Night route to 5001 (nametag huntgroup)
DN 5001 - Nametag Huntgroup
- Night route to VM (6000)

VM 5000 = Day MLAA
VM 5001 = Night MLAA
VM 1 = Single digit Mailbox with extension XXXX
- MB 1 cannot have ext 5000 as MB 5000 needs to have extension 5000 and so will have some other number not already in use.
XXXX = Speeddial which dials 5000

Call flow Day
- Caller calls in
- VM plays day greeting with option 1 for more options
- Option 1 dials XXXX
- XXXX dials 5000
- 5000 routes to VM in Day Mode
- MLAA 5000 picks up and plays Day options

Call Flow Night
- Caller calls in
- VM plays day greeting with option 1 for more options
- Option 1 dials XXXX
- XXXX dials 5000
- 5000 routes to 5001 in Night Mode
- 5001 routes to VM in night mode
- MLAA 5001 picks up and plays Night options[/tt]
