OK.. I have a wav file that I have converted to 8khz;8-bit; mono but when I try to upload it I get the message
"Audio file update failed due to unknown audio file format. Reformat file following guidelines in the technical documentation, then try again."

I've tried using audacity and windows sound recorder.

I am ripping the audio files from our Corporate music on hold CD

You can use sound recorder build into Windows

go to File/Properties

Then Select Convert Now

Then Select CCITT u-Law (on format pulldown)

Then Save-As (Recommend name Mitel Format)

Record.

You must select the format before EACH new recording!

I have followed the above and not had any issues. kwbMitel, maybe you should make a FAQ.
