I have a mitel 3300 on release 8.0.8.8 and it seems to have generated 3 stale tasks which is raising a major alarm. Can someone explain what a stale task actually is and how to get rid of it. A reboot doesnt fix the problem. I have been told that an upgrade will fix the problem but this isnt actually fixing the exact fault. Clearing the alarm by an upgrade is actually a kind of 'bi-product' of an upgrade if you get what i mean.

Any responses will be highly appreciated

Why could an upgrade solve the problem ?
Maybe there is a bug that causes a big problem

Is the alarm present as soon as the system comes back after a reboot? If so, capture the Maint. port output and take a look, there's likely some boot process hanging on you.

There were issues with 8.0.9.18 (the UR3 release that was pulled shortly after going GA) not coming up correctly, particularly with large databases, so an upgrade to a newer release may in fact fix your problem.

What is the exact wording of the alarm? A 'stale' task doesn't make sense to me, a 'suspended' task, yes.

Most alarms have an associated Maintenance Log, any of these?

Stale Tasks is a valid alarm on the 3300, usually pops up when a system task has hung and is chewing up more resources than it should. Normally this triggers a Resource Recovery reboot at the programmed time, which should clear the alarm.

Is there any difference between a reboot and a resource recovery reboot ?

A Resource Recovery reboot is a specific type of reboot that's triggered automatically by the system and takes place on a different schedule from the Programmed reboot. There's also the manual "on-demand" reboot (aka hitting the reset button).
