Hello everyone,

When a user dials 911, all the stations are alerted and an alarm is triggered throughout the building. I know that this is part of the emergency services within the system. I am also aware of how the system works and the importance of the CESIDs. Currently there are a few stations setup with an emergency button to acknowledge and cancel the alarm. However, due to the fact that this is a public place an emergency protocol is in place and everyone has to vacate the premises. The place has 24 hours surveillance and a 911 call can be placed by the people on duty. My questions are the following:

1. Can this alarm be disabled altogether, without affecting the emergency service (e.g. being able to dial 911) and if so, how is this done?
2. Are there any regulations in BC, Canada dealing with CESIDs and telephone emergency services for public places
3. Does anyone have a solution to how to alarm only specific sets without broadcasting an alarm throughout the system

Thanks

911 dialing is completely separate from notification. No issues

Sets are designated as Notification endpoints via a Hunt Group (Emergency Type)
Only sets that are members of the group will be notified.

The purpose of the notification is to make sure that someone on site is aware that a 911 call has been placed. Typically this would be a central answering position or security desk only.

This accomplishes 2 important tasks.
1) - If the Emergency Services call back to confirm the call (due to hangup) then someone knows that a call has been placed.
2) - The call can be verified internally and responded to before Emergency Responders show up

Best Practice = The CESID number delivered should ring back to a notified station.

For consoles, the notification can be disabled via COS (Audio and Visual emergency notification)

What's most important is that you realise ... There is no spoon.

Question 1: The emergency notificatons possible on the 3300 have nothing to do with or any effect on the ability to dial 911 so no worries there. As kwbMitel says the notification is triggered by a call going out on a route that has been designated as an emergency route in the ARS programming. It triggers those phones setup to receive the notification so it doesn't have to be everyone in a building. Typically it is a location that is manned at all times like security or the attendant console. A screen pop appears on the console and on a set a message on the screen appears and in both cases the number dialling 911 is shown. There is a limit on the number of sets that can be alarmed at once for 911 so I wonder if the notifcation throughout the building is something else other then just the phone system.

Question 2: can't answer for what you need in BC other then you most likely need to allow every phone to have the ability to dial 911. The CESID info doesn't leave the premises unless you have the additional E911 Advisor. The local CO must also be setup to be able to accept the information from your site that they use with a database you supply.

Question 3: Yes you can define the sets or consoles that receive the alarm.

Side note any number going out on the emergency route triggers the alert so in a testing phase you can setup a cell phone number to go out the route and you can see that all alerts go to the correct place. This saves dialling 911 and causing issues with the local 911 responder.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.
