Does anyone know if the Mitel MCD 5.0 CXi II can do 3 digit Ext's? Is it hard to do? I know when I went to class they were 4 digits long. If so, what is the best way about doing this? do I have to change FAC in the system?

They certainly don't teach you this stuff in class.

The system has nothing preconfigured.

Any amount of digits from 1-7 is allowable.

The less digits you use, the more carefully you must design to avoid conflicts.

So will I be conflicting with anything by doing three digit extentions? What conflicts are you talking about?

Sorry if I sound stupid? Im very fresh to the Mitel World..coming from Nortel

What YOU program is what YOU get.

If YOU program a 3 digit extension 123 and YOU also program anything else starting with 123 the YOU have created a conflict.

I repeat, Nothing is Preconfigured. It is up to YOU to avoid programming conflicts.

ok.. that makes since. THANKS!!!!

Are you good with the emebeded voice mail? I heard that my system is being shard by two different companaies and they have two separate DID's for thier main numbers. Can these be answered byt tow separate automated attendents?

Is the technicians handbook my best book for stuff like this?

I wish my class would have been more detailed but it seems they get you geared up to spend more money on advanced classes

thanks again

I use 3 digit often and don't have issues. I'll go to 4 digits on larger installs for more flexibility. If you're using embedded voice mail, don't forget to log into mailbox 9999 with the administrator passcode and press 1 to default the voice mail and configure the mailbox length to 3 digits, as it is set to 4 digits by default. Otherwise you won't be able to program any mailboxes.

You can separate ports per company and program different greeting sets per port. You'd program different pilot numbers for each set of ports you use. Ie Company 1 VM pilot 700 w/ ports 701-708 using primary greeting set 1. Company 2 VM pilot 750 w/ port 751-758 using alternate greeting set 2.
Yes tech handbooks is great. Especially in PDF format.
The help on the 3300 itself is very good also.
If you've done the course with Mitel then you're probably certified so their tech support is very good also.

The key to programming multiple auto-attendants on the embedded voicemail is whether the auto-attendants have the same opening and closing hours, use the dummy acd paths and interflow workaround to get different menu node mailbxes to play depending what service the telephone system is in.

By the looks of it... there is one PRI with a block off DID's... I was told by someone that is lets say the telco is sending my 3 digits like "450" and I have an ext "450" it should ring that ext.

But I guess there are going to be two different DID's that need to be answered byt two defferent auto att greetings... Any idea how I can separate those two DID to be answered by the two different Greetings?

You have helped out tremdously... Thanks you very much. Makes sense. I was able to set my system to 3 digit and the voice mail two.

Here is how I may handle an install.
Telco sends 10 digits over the PRI.
Company 1 - 4165551111
Company 2 - 4165552222
In the truck attributes of my PRI I set Dial In Trunks Incoming Digit Modification - Absorb to 3. This strips the 416.
Company 1 is now - 5551111
Company 2 is now - 5552222
Go to System Speed Calls form. Create speed call 5551111 and in the actual number field, enter company 1 auto attendant DN eg 400. Same thing for 5552222. Create speed call 5552222 and in the actual number field, enter company 2 auto attendant DN eg 450.
