I am investigating the Mitel 3300 to use for our phone systems and have a question about unified messaging and faxes. I will have an Exchange 2007 server and have the availability if need be to implement a Exchange 2007 Unified Messaging server and/or a Office 2007 Communications server. That's where I get a little fuzzy on what's needed in conjuction with the Mitel. I want e-mail, voice-mail, and faxes to come to the the user's inbox. So do I need both of these servers?

First the integration works very well. Thre are no known Mitel issues with the integration. There are a few bugs on the Microsoft side, which have nothing to do with Mitel. I would hold off until SP1 (out shortly).

You need to purchase 1x SIP Trunking license for each caller you want to have in the Exchange 2007 voice mail/auto attendant at the same time (i.e. 8x licenses if you want 8x people in VM at one time).

Fax support (T.38) is not supported today, but 8.1 should be out in the new year (going into beta shortly), which will support T.38 faxing.

But do I need both servers? The Exchange 2007 unified messaging server as well as a Office 2007 communication server?

I thought it needed at least Office 2007 Communications server... I saw a demo on it the other day from a vendor and they were using Live Communication Serve 2005 but still on Exchange 2003.

When you are stating "No, you can operate with just Exchange", you are meaning that I will need the Unified Messaging server installation, correct?

All I'm saying is "you do not need Office 2007 Communicator" to run Exchange Unified Messaging (where the Exchange is your voice mail server).
