Missing step in line redirection?

Greetings all,

Disclaimer: I inherited this from a person who left the company. I'm not a phone guy by training.

I'm having a devil of a time getting Line Redirection working on a M7310 in the office. I'm trying to get a office handset to automatically redirect all calls to a coworker's home office. I know our system is capable of it, since another set has it working. Also, the set in question has redirection set to 'Y'.

Here are the steps I'm taking:
1) Feature 84
2) Select an Intercom button when it asks for a Line Out
3) Push the Autodial for the external number I want.
4) Select 'All' when it asks to "Select Line(s)"

At this point, the set makes the error sound and displays "No line to use."

Trying to figure out how the other working set is configured, the noticeable differences are:

- Button 01 displays LineXXX on the working phone,
while the new set is not programmed.
- Intercom buttons on the working phone displays PortXXX
instead of LineXXX as on the new set.

I'm sure this has something to do with it, but I can't seem to find a way to set that button to an Incoming Line.

Is anyone aware of any FAQs or walkthroughs that explain setting up redirection to an external line soup to nuts?

TIA,
MB

I believe you must select a line pool code (eg 9) when you press intercom. When it says to select line you must select the line you want to redirect, or if you want to redirect all lines on that phone select all. To unredirect press F#84 then select all. I hope this helps.

After further testing, I've pretty much confirmed that I have to have a Line to access to get the Redirection programmed. Can anyone explain the process by which you associate an incoming Line with B01?

Thanks again,
MB

You must have the line or lines you want to redirect programmed on the set. The set you see that has it working probably has a private line assigned to it, you cannot just pick any line on your phone system as they are inbound for the company.
Line programming is in the CONFIGURATION/Tech side of programming similiar to your ADMINISTRATION side of programming but deeper.

yeah ya cant redirect an extension...unless it release 4.1 or higher anything lower its a trunk redirect

Interesting are you sure you arent trying to Call forward the phone calls to home?Line redirection is on a per line bases. You can Call Forward all of the sets calls .You must make sure the software is dr 4.1 and up.You also have to set up a route its probably best to get a tech involved as it does take so understanding of the system to set this up.

Unfortunately, I'm fairly certain our software is version 4.0, but I know this can work since it is with one of the sets. Perhaps I have my terminology wrong, but I'm trying to configure it so that any calls one employee gets on the work telephone(M7310) will be forwarded to their home office phone. According to button inquiry(F *0), the working set displays a Line147 on the B01. This line number maps to the correct employee in our setup spreadsheet. I have the correct Line number I need for the new setup(217), I just don't know how to associate it to B01 on the other person's set.

Barring a solution, is anyone aware of any Norstar experts in the San Francisco SOMA area?

Thanks for hanging with me on this,
MB

pls login in the norstar (feature ** ....)
under maintenance >system version
find the SP:30 .... NAT
and post it ..then we can tell if it'll work or not

that translates to MICS4.1 XC ... which means u have the external call forward capability

here is what u need to do:

admin part:

1. under terminals and sets enable external redirect

2. Under services >routing >>dest codes, build a new routing code say 88

3. Under services>routing> routes, build a new route say 88 and specify it uses say Pool A

user part:
goto the phone
press feature 4, 88, 14155551212

that shd do it ...let us knwo how it works

Interesting. Thanks for the approach.

I've got to say I'm too timid to much with the routes as I understand so little of them. It's also definitely not the approach our phone admin used. I assume based on the suggestions to use call forwarding, his approach was the oddball one.

Here's how I get it working on the set that is properly configured:

Buttons
-------
It's a stock M7310 other than the following:
B01= Incoming Line 147(maps to employee's work line #)
B27= Feature 84 Line Redirection
B29= Speed dial to home office

Process
-------
1. Push 'B27' (Feature 84)
See "Line Redirection"

2. Choose 'ADD'
See "Select line out"

3. Push 'B09' (Intercom)
See "Enter Digits"

4. Push 'B29' (Speed dial for home office number)
See "Select line(s)"

5. Push 'B01' (Indicated as 'Line147')
See "Select line(s)"

6. Choose 'OK'

All calls to that set are immediately redirected to the employee's home office.

Now if I could only figure out how to reprogram 'B01' on the new set, I'd be in business (I think).

Thanks again,
-MB

yes line redirection will work, but only for calls coming in on Line147
but if you need internal station to station calls as well to be forwarded u must go the routing route ...

Oh, I see. Not the internal station to station rule isn't important as we're a small company. It's mainly for client calls.

So, with that said, can anyone explain how to program an incoming line onto the B01 button?

Thanks,
MB

feature 84
choose the line u want to redirect (line 147)
chose the line you want to go out on (eg intercom)

tell hte system where it should go to
9 1 408 1234567 ...

At this point, I know how to do the actual redirection. The problem is that there isn't a dedicated line associated with a button on the set. That's the part I can't figure out.

if you are forwarding line 147, hten you need to have the line 147 on the set.

if you are referring to the second line to forward out on - then u dont need one ...intercom 9 will be second line

Yes, I know. Per my earlier posts, that's what I've trying to figure out how to add to the set.

Line 147 is a Target Line..meaning..you are not dealing with CO lines here. Target lines are for DID/BRI/PRI/T1 lines. Incoming calls from either of those circuit types cannot land on a button because they are not loop lines. Incoming calls are sending DNIS digits with them. If DID, then most likely the digits are going to match extension numbers. It sounds like you have DID since your company is big enough to have button 1 not be a direct trunk. (Unless you in fact have one of the other circuit types and multiple sets have the same target lines assigned. I assume not.) Anyway, when the call comes in, the system receives the dnis digits and maps them to a target line.

Sorry, but my truck is in the shop and I don't have the manual, but I will try to navigate from memory.....

F**266344266344 -<Terminals&Sets
bottom right -<Lines
top right -<Line001:Line001 Find-145
top right -<Trunk/Line Data
top right -<Line Type :public/Private/Pool

Start at line 145 (first target line) and find out where all the lines are going. When you get to 147 you will see the extension number of your example. What you need may already be programmed. Find a line that is not programmed 'Private To' e.g.149, and make it private to the new extension.

bottom right -<Dial Mode (this might not be right
bottom right -<Rec'd # but keep scrolling)

top right -I'm lost without the book now, but here is where the magic happens. I can't know what digits you need but you will map them to our example TL149. Look for an example from 147. When your finished...

top left repeatedly
bottom left -<Terminals&Sets
top right -<find the extension you need
top right -<Line Access
top right -<Line Assignment
top right -<Line001:Ring Only (example)
Find Line 149 -<Line149:Unassigned
Change to Appr&Ring
RLS

Now you should be able to key in your redirect sequence.

This may not apply, but it's good info -- F82 will move buttons around.
Sorry to be long-winded.
