Good Morning,
I need some help, We have an Avaya Partner 18D and someone was trying to program their phone and somehow "deleted" our line 6 phone line. not sure how this happened or what they did but it is missing on all of our phones in the office.

Can someone help me get the dial tone back on the line?

Thanks!
Wendy

Feature 00. Left intercom key twice. Dial #104 enter 06 for the number of lines. Feature 00 to back out of programmming.

For starters - what telephone system do you have? Partner or IP Office.

This forum is for the IP Office telephone system, which does support the 18D telephone but only in its IP Office Basic Edition modes.

If an IP Office, it sound like the user also has the system phone (one of the first two phones on the system) and has used the system administration menus to change the number of lines from 6 to 5. See

I am sorry we are on a partner... should i go to another thread... I apologize.

unless budbyrd has the correct information.... but it's only line 6 all other lines are fine and they didn't do it from the system admin phone... which was my first thought.

budbyrd's process is right for the number of lines setting on both Partner and IP Office Basic Edition.

A change that affects the line assignment on all phone's should only be possible from a system admin phone, but I don't know Partner, just the IP Office Basic Edition emulation of Partner operation.

Sorry to be a pain in the butt, however i don't want to screw up. LOL

Do I do 06 for line 6 or will this effect all lines? I ask because we have 8 lines, but only line 6 is the problem.

Then I would do 08. This is for the total number of lines. Other wise you have to assign them to each phone individually.

Budbyrd I should do this from the system admin phone correct? Thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it.

The feature 'Number of Lines' controls how many lines are automatically assigned on all user extensions out of the pool of lines available.

So entering a value like 04 would automatically assign lines 1 to 4 onto every extension.
You would do that if you want lines 5 and 6 to only be available on those extensions where you individually assign them using a separate process.

Hence why we both suspect that the system was originally setup with Number of Lines 06 and then someone has run Number of Lines 05.

Interestingly, on IP Office Basic Edition (and so maybe on Partner which the IP Office is trying to emulate) the default Number of Lines is 5 on a new system. So you could end of with that value if the config had been defaulted but I assume they would have noticed a lot more changes if that had happened unless by chance they were using an almost default configuration anyway.

The partner defaults to the total number of physical ports. 6 is a common number since most of the cards are 308's.
