I just did a backup and then went in to do maintenance on my db, only when I tried to go in it gave me a "waiting for permission to log on" error. I changed the license file but now it is missing a file called charset.dbf. I tried to locate it on the original Goldmine CD and cannot. It will not let me in GOldmine, but instead, after getting the missing file message, closes down. Can anyone please tell me what to do? Thanks, JL

Create a temporary installation of GoldMine elsewhere, then copy the charset.* files from that installation to your current installation. Sounds like those files might have gotten corrupted in the maintenance process.

easyn the maintenance didn't finish.
either wait or if you are sure it is done. then find the license.dbx on the root directory and rename the file to license.dbf.

gm renames this file when it does a P&R and then renames it back. if it bombs then it never renames it.

Sorry it took so long to reply, but I have been on vacation until today. Actually my whole database was corruptly pretty seriously. I reinstalled Goldmine on top of the current installation and then copied over the files needed, like user settings, from a previous backup.

I do not like doing backup and maintenance though, because I have a problem of some sort every time I do one. Have a wonderful day and thank you both for your help, JL

I'd recommend against using the built-in backup utility in GoldMine, as I've had several clients who have reported problems with it. Instead, use a third-party backup solution like BackupExec or the Backup utility that comes with Windows.

Back up the entire GoldMine directory (if you're not already), as that'll include everything you'll need in the event of a future problem.

Boxster, I used incorrect terminology in my explanation. Actually, I just burn the whole directory onto a CD and that is my "backup". But thanks for letting me know what to stay away from. Have a wonderful day, JL
