hey, i have this problem regarding windows XP. When i double click on my computer, i notice that something is missing on the top. i do not see any menus at all. By that i mean, i dont see file, edit, view, etc, etc. Additionally, i do not see any toolbars (i.e. back, forward, stop, etc. etc.). In addition to that, i do not see my address bar. However, they are present on the other user accounts i have on this computer. Is there some option that i checked off that could have resulted in this? I have tried going to folder options in the control panel and restoring everything to default, but that did not help. any ideas??? PLZ HELP.

BTW, when i open up windows explorer, the menues are all present and such. It is only when i double click on my computer, or get to a folder through a shortcut i have placed on my desktop.

Try using the System Restore program to go back a couple of days to when your settings were correct.

i agree that is an option, but there must be some setting that i unchecked or some button that i hit. I mean ,the file menu just doesnt disappear because it wants to. Im not trying to sound critical or anything like that, but this problem is frustrating me because i ive been working on it for a week now. Everyone i have asked around my parts do not know why this is happening. Does anyone know what option you would need to select inorder to have your menus gone like that?

I can't imagine one single setting that you could alter to have that effect. You can get rid of the address bar via the view and drop down menu (if you had one) and unchecking it on the toolbar menu. On the same menu you can customize the explorer bar. Even if you view in Full Screen mode you have an explorer bar at the top of the page.

If your experience is anything like mine you will learn to accept that computers do funny unexplained things (for many unknown reasons) all the time and just learn to live with it and cope and fix it as best you can.

The good thing about researching this type of mystery is that you are sure to discover many interesting other bits and pieces along the way.

Sorry I can't help you any further and hope someone more knowledgable can answer this.

Thank you for the help linney. Im just going to create another logon account and try to transfer my settings over. if anyone ever finds out the reason for my lack of menus, please reply as soon as possible.
