Hi everybody,
I've just notice a weird thing (too early to call it a problem). The amount of used space in my system seems to be more than reality.
I have 3 partitions :eek:ne for win98, one for XP and the third one for common ducument and files (the E:\ partition). in E:\ i have 2 deirctories, one in the size of 2.17 GB, and one 1.33 GB, and another file of 691 MB. Simple calculation shows that the amount of used space should be about 4.2 GB. We'll add some partition information and system restore resources and it should increase to about 4.5-4.6 GB. But in reality, when i click properties for the E:\ partition, it shows that the amount of used disk space is 6.83 GB. Where have these extra 2 gigas gone?
The same situation exist in the other 2 partitions (in D:\ there is a 3 Gigas gap).
All prtitions I have are FAT32.
Is this a file system issue? Should I convert to NTFS, will the situation get better?
Thanks a lot
George

hi

1. windows needs 1gb or more for the hibernate mode if it's activated.
2. look at the reciklebin, he have reserved some space too.
3. windows have a recoverie function witch needs 1-2 gb space

hope i could help you

Have you got folder options/view set to show hidden and system files? Because if not, you obviously won't be seeing them in explorer - so they won't be included in your sums.

Hmmm... I set the explorer to show hidden files and directories, plus emptied the recycle bin. what is hibernate mode? How is activated/deactivated?
And this recovery function...
Cheers
George

hibernation is where the computer turns off but remembers what you are doing at the time by saving everthing that is in ram to a file.

pretty handy on laptops but it reserves an amount of your diskspace.

how to find out if you can hibernate:

hibernation creates a hidden file hiberfill.sys usually in c:\ drive that is allegedly the size of your computer's ram

i think you can turn it off in power management. and then after rebooting delete the hidden file.

You can turn hibernation off in power management & it automatically removes the file.

Recovery function is System Restore
