What creates the /dev/IPL_rootvg file? I am missing one on an AIX - 5.3.3 7026-H70 system. How can I recreate this file?

Thanks

Run this as root:
mknod IPL_rootvg c 10 0

You might also have to set the permissions afterward identical to rootvg. Normally it is crw-rw----. So
chmod 660 /dev/IPL_rootvg
should do it.

How come it was removed?

Thank you - I found some obscure documentation about that and was just about to run that command after doing some more investigation. This happened as a result of running a reducevg rootvg hdisk1 - before running an unmirror command. It errored on the dump device and that was the beginning of my problems, somehow the system threw hdisk0 into old_rootvg and left hdisk1 in rootvg with no hd5 boot device. I ran a mklv to create that, then ran bosboot to get that straightened out - extendvg -f rootvg hdisk0 - then mirrored hdisk1 & hdisk0. Still missing the IPL_rootvg which showed up when someone performed an exportvg command. Now it is back! All seems well with the ODM and VGDA - I am still looking into other commands to check this out. I have only been at this site for about 2 months and do have much documentation in the way of history on the servers and it has been a few years since I have worked with IBMs - I am on the fast path learning curve again!

Thank you again for that tip!

Lou
