Missing DAO library

Converting from Access97 to Access2000, I get the message "There were compilation errors during the conversion or enabling of this database". When I try to open a form, the error message is "Compile error - can't find project or library". Clicking on "OK", a Reference window opens and announces that I'm missing the "Microsoft DAO 2.5/3.5 Compatibility Library".
Does anyone know if this is really the source of my problem and, if so, where I can get this file? (Re-installing Office didn't help).

Does this database need to get data or communicate with other databases or applications? I got the can't find object or library error when running an application that trys to communicate between Access and Word.

You may require an install of the DCOM and MDAC programs from Microsoft as these will install the most upto date data components and libraries. I assume that the references window does not have the DAO 2,5/3.5 compatability library.

I have checked my list of references (I run Access 97 by the way) and I have the Microsoft DAO2.5/3.5 Compatibilty Library in my list. Try downloading the files and running the DCOM then MDAC and see how you get on.

Check for a refernce to this library object.

Open a code window and from top menu... Tools,References.

If not then you will need to reference the library.

Find Microsoft DAO 2.5/3.5 compatability Library and select it.

Problem solved. I got the 2.5/3.5 compatibility file from someone who still had Access97 and now everything works fine.

This problem happens frequently whenever upgrading or shipping apps to others. The references to libraries on the development system are retained and if the target system does not have the same reference libraries in exactly the same location the system will not be able to find the file. A downloaded application created a new reference to DAO350.DLL. I was unaware of this until I'd determined I wasn't interested in the application and deleted it. Now, my DAO 351 object library reference points to the nonexistent path.

Have been through the help files / MS KB but am still unsure how to reset the DLLs path. Any help appreciate.
