When my psp RIPped my IDCS3-created PDFs, some (not all) of the apostrophes and en dashes were missing. My psp reminded me to embed my fonts.

All the fonts show as embedded under 'Properties' in the PDF version. I can't seem to accomplish this in ID, even though I've followed their help instructions: "'Subset Fonts When Percent Of Characters Used Is Less Than' Sets the threshold for embedding complete fonts based on how many of the font’s characters are used in the document. Embedding complete fonts increases file size, but if you want to make sure you completely embed all fonts, enter 0 (zero)". Although I have made this change to zero, preflight still shows I have '0' embedded fonts. I have downloaded all the updates.

An earlier thread indicated entering 100% was what was needed to embed all fonts. That just confused me more.

Please tell me how I can make preflight show I have embedded my fonts. I'm assuming this will make my apostrophes and en dashes reappear......

Thanks,

Sara

...the Fonts panel of the Preflight dialog box lists all fonts used in the document - the fonts embedded option in preflight only applies to EPS files, native Adobe Illustrator files, and placed PDF pages that may have fonts already embedded in these formats. Yours says zero as you don't have these formats in use in your document...

...the export subset/embed fonts in the PDF export dialog is not really related to Preflight dialog, embedded fonts in the export only kicks in when you actually export to PDF...

...in CS3 pdf export, what happens if you export to PDFX-1a or PDFX 4?

...to deterine if the font is playing up, do a find font / change all, as a test and export again to see if it embeds properly throughout your doc...

...if it does, i would consider changing the problem font to get the job out if possible...

...are you on mac or pc? if on mac cleaning out font cache files can sometimes work wonders with problem files, and good practice to keep your system singing...

I'm on pc. Tried the find/change font test and all still looks the same in ID Preflight and PDF Properties. Also tried a PDFX-1a and PDFX-4. Waiting to hear from my psp if any of these were successful. Will post here with results.

Good to know specifically what embedded fonts ID Preflight will show. Thanks for clarifying.

Thank you for your help!
