when I install a second (identical) video card it boots but I get no CDE, it just stops at the console prompt.

If I do...

ok> show-displays

I can see both cards.

It just wont boot to CDE.

Any Ideas?

Have you checked your /usr/dt/config/Xservers file?

First move it to /etc/dt/config/Xservers

Look toward the bootom of the file where the example for two screens are showned.

Remove the comment from the line above the Astericks
and comment out the line below.
The first /dev/fb0 will be the console.

thanks! you're right, this is what I did...

Sun Dual-Head Display

To configure a dual-headed display:

1) cp /usr/dt/config/Xservers /etc/dt/config/Xservers
cp /usr/dt/config/Xconfig /etc/dt/config/Xconfig

2) Modify the last line in the Xservers file as follows:
:0 Local local_uid@console root /usr/openwin/bin/Xsun :0 -dev /dev/fb0 -dev /dev/fb1

3) Modify the Dtlogin.servers line in the Xconfig file as follows:

Dtlogin.servers: /etc/dt/config/Xservers

4) Reboot the machine
