I installed a 325W power supply to replace a 185W PS. When I booted up both my cd-rom and cd-burner were not in windows explorer or device manager. I disconnected the ribbon cable from the main board to the cd's in question. I booted up windows then I shut down the computer completely. I connected the ribbon cable and my cd-burne now shows but not my cd-rom. They are both connected with the cable and power hook ups.

Any ideas why my cd-rom won't show? I just tried pushing the on button for the cd-rom and it doesn't work.

Remove the power supply molex from the cd in question and see if any of the pins are missing. Then reconnect the power supply plug to the cd and boot. If it does not open the cd then try another power tap, it could be the one you are using is bad.

This still seems like a connecting hardware problem, can you check to see if the Bios recognizes your CD-ROM drive?

If you go into setup and look at the boot sequence and the cd is not listed then it is not getting power or is a bad unit.

I don't have solution for this, but I have a similar problem. A friend of mine got mad with his PC at one time and kicked the computer. Next thing he knows (for that one stupid Kung-fu kick) is that his CD-rom would not show up in windows explore. I check device manager and it there but not working (with a yellow mark to it). BIOS shows it is there. I checked all the cables and they seem to be OK.
I would really like to know how to help him out ( and get some pitchers...lol).
Thanks
