Mising DNS record

I have a domain

http://www.xyz.com.

I host the site and have control over the dns. I can only get to the site by typing in

http://www.xyz.com.

I have seen other sites that can be accessed by either

http://www.abc.com

or abc.com. Am I missing a DNS record that is not allowing me to access my site as xyz.com?

Your domain is xyz.com.

http://www is

a host within xyz.com. You need an additional record that resolves xyz.com to

http://www.xyz.com

What type of new record do I need? An "A" record, "CNAME" record?

www IN A 111.222.333.444 <resolves

http://www.xyz.com

to the correct address>

xyz.com IN CNAME www

Or

xyz.com IN A 111.222.333.444

Either will point xyz.com to 111.222.333.444.

If you look up tek-tips.com you can see that they have done something similar but the other way around. They have created an A record for tek-tips.com and then pointed the

http://www record

at a CNAME for tek-tips.com. See here ...

tek-tips.com. 3600 A 216.45.19.33

http://www.tek-tips.com.

3600 CNAME tek-tips.com.

Easy!
