does win2k pro have built-in software mirroring ?

No, nothing on it at all. This is a new system fresh install. The second drive isn't formated, should I format it in the Manager using NTFS?
 
try to do this :
make 2 partitions - volumes - with 10 G
one on the 1st partation , and one on the 2nd partation ..
then try to make a mirror between them

According to Windows Help:

Mirrored volumes are available only on computers running Windows 2000 Server. You can, however, use a computer running Windows 2000 Professional to create mirrored volumes on a remote computer running Windows 2000 Server.
 
I am working with 2000 prof mirrored on 2 40 GB Hard disk !!!

Stores Data in strips across two or more drives. Is faster but not fault tolerant.
 
Get a promise controller and do it the hardware route.
