I have 2 HD RAID 1 with W2K Server. I have a problem with 1 HD and the status of my Mirror is "Error Tolerant". I want to change this bad HD by another new HD. What have I to do?
Hello,
I have a RAID 1 do with Windows 2KServer with 2HD (IDE).
2nd HD is failure and my mirror is "Error Tolerant". 1st HD is correct.
I have that change the 2nd HD by another new HD.
Too I change the 1st HD because I want have the two new HD identical.
What have I to do?
I think:
1.-Remove mirror and restart.
2.- Shutdown and Remove phisically 2nd HD.
3.-Turn on with only 1st HD on PC.
4.-Shutdown and add phisically new 2nd HD on PC
5.- Do mirror and reboot.
6.- Break mirror and shutdown.
7.- Remove phisically 1st HD and put the 2nd HD on the first IDE.
8.-Turn ON with only the new HD.
9.- Shutdown and add phisically the new 2nd HD .
10.- Do mirror and reboot.
I have a Dell PowerEdge server that I set up from scratch (I'm a web server newbie, mostly). It has 4 HD's. The C: is a RAID 1 and the E: is a RAID 1. Thus, 4 physical disks used to create 2 virtual SCSI containers. Before installing Windows, I used Dells' SCSI controller to create the RAIDs.. that is.. I did it all within the SCSI Raid Controller BIOS.
On boot-up, it correctly shows the 2 virtual containers. And in Windows, In Admin Tools >> Computer Mgt. >> Disk Mgt. I can see that I have legitamate C: and E: Basic disk volumes.
If I want to test to see if mirroring is working. Can I power down the server, yank one of the disks, and power it up again? Or can I just "hot" yank one of the disks.
I just want to be sure the system is mirroring correctly and would work in the event if one of the HD's failed.
