Recently my exchange server (NT 4.0 / 5.5) took a $hit

I installed exchange on another NT box and named the server the same name as the previous server. I also maunally added in all the users accounts. All the previous data was not restored because all of my backups covered the time frame of the server comprimise. I did however get exchange up and running.

I ran into a few problems.

1. I had to delete and recreate the exchange service on every outlook client. I am not sure why ? I did a scan ofthe registry and only found refercne to the server name (which was labled the same) I assume this to be a SID issue ?

Question: Can exchange accounts be moved or migrated between multiple servers ? When I bring the original server back online would like to migrate all ofthe user accounts I and data to the new box ? Can this be done ?

I am not an exchange admin, Help is needed !
Exchange 5.5

Well when you recreated your server and manually created the users you ended up with all new Directory names. You would have to go to each client to get them back up and running. it was a directory Name issue.

Mailboxes can be moved between exchange servers within a site using the move mailbox utility.

Post any other questions you have.

scavngr,

OK so I can have multiple exchange server under a single site. This is good.

When adding the second exchange server to the site, are issues that I need to be aware of to ensure that both exchange servers comunicate properly?

Please go easy on me. I am an exchange newbie !

just insure that you are using a normal site connector and have a directory replication connector created as well. Replication can take some time. It took 2 hours where I am at.
