smitee,

Just a quick note that you're links above have the "CFTOKEN" at the end which is associated with your login to this website. The CFTOKEN expires after a certain period of activity. In other words, they don't work anymore! s-)

Bigunclepete,

Do visit the FAQ sections, but offhand, I know you need to make sure you leave the following checked if u have it (though a lot of it is a matter of preference):

- LoadPowerProfiles (even if you have more than 1)
- ScanReg
- anything related to your antivirus prog

* you'll have to use your best judgement and if you're not sure, post back with a list...

Thanks cdogg

Never knew that....%-)

If you get a chance will you elaborate..Links work for me but not for others..is that it???

Thanks

Well, the links will stop working for you if you've gone long enough without clicking anything on the website. The server assigns a CFTOKEN to the webpages it lets you view based on your login. After a certain period of inactivity, these CFTOKENs expire.

Yes, you are the only one who can use these links. I'm not sure if you log out and then log back in, they will still work for you, but I know they won't work for anyone else!

Hope this helps!

Thanks for feedback..

If I want to direct someone to a FAQ ... then you are saying I cannot navigate to the selected FAQ, copy shortcut, return to message reply and paste link? If so how do I paste link to FAQ in message reply? Thanks for your patience and Bigunclepete, my apologies for hijacking your post.

Regards

smitee

smitee,

This is the only way I know to do it:

- sign out by hitting the "log out" option
- go back to the home page - without signing in, browse to the forum, then to the FAQ section
- after selecting on the appropriate article, you can copy the URL link to paste later after you sign back in (you'll notice the link doesn't have "CFTOKEN" at the end of the address)

** Anyone should be able to use the link whether they're signed in or not

I've found that this site:
has an excellent discussion about the msconfig. Check its long list of those files which would 'jump', uninvitedly, into the startup. The Startstop program from that site is also very good to have.

Merry Christmas.

you just need to select systray and scanreg option in the msconfig for your system to boot up quickly

Explorer and Systray are the only two Windows needs to start. There are some others needed if you want system restore to work properly. With thoes enabled, the best boot time I personally have seen is about 30 sec from the "ME" splash screen to actual functionality(not just the desktop).

I never recommend disabling the LoadPowerProfile entries either, even if you have more than one listed. Each only take very small fractions of a second to load, and on laptops are crucial to power management.

Also, most well-known virusscan utilities have entries in here as well, and you usually want leave them enabled for protection at startup. If your pc logs onto a domain server, such as at work, then sometimes you'll find entries in here from SMS or similar programs. Disabling them may cause headaches...

******* BOTTOM LINE *******
Research and use your best judgement. Everyone here will probably have a different opinion.
