Is it possible to have Outlook 2000 minimized to the system tray witout it being visible on the task bar?

I dont mind what I need to do: VBA, macro, registry but I dont want to have to use another program that eats up even more memory in the process.

Many thanks

Hello,

This problem (minimize Outlook to tray) is very topical question for me.
I use small utility for minimize Outlook to tray. You can find at the following link:

You can also try to download Icon Corral which seems to work pretty well for minimizing any program to the tray.

If you are only interested in minizing outlook (xp for sure, I don't know about other versions) to the tray, you can edit the registry as follows:

hkey-current-user\software\microsoft\office\10.0\outlook\preferences
Make a new dword called MinToTray and give it a value of 1.

I use this program because it can minimize Outlook 2000, Internet Explorer and any my applications to tray, can launch program and can activate window of launching program by pressing keyboard shortcut. It is convenient for me.

In memory this program occupies about 1 Mb.

I don't know other way to minimize Outlook into the tray.

Best regards,
Mike

If you want to "tray" Outlook you need to create this registry key and set the value of MinToTray to 1.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Preferences]

"MinToTray"=dword:00000001

eslayter, boninfan, and all.

tnx for the good tip!
I did it and works fine!

I'm running office 2000 on Windows ME. I tried editing the registry as written above, but no joy. I even tried making the modifications in HKEY Local Machine (as my computer is not set up for multiple users), and tried adding the keys to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0 and 8.0 as I didn't have a 10.0. Still no joy. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

The registry "hack" is particular to only OutlookXP, not even Word, Excel, or Access XP will support it. I am experimenting with it on Outlook 2000 and have not found it to work. I suggest downloading one of the utilities mentioned above.

There are some utilities at and I think I remember seeing one about minimizing outlook to the systray. joegz

What do you mean by System Tray? Is it the area on the bottom of the screen next to the start button? If it is, then just drag the Outlook icon off the desktop and release on the bar next to the other icons that are near the start button. I am running Win2k Pro and Microsoft Office 2000 and that is what I did.

Good Luck

DPitt,

The system tray is the area next to the clock. Messenger minimizes there, as can winamp and many other programs. You are referring to the quicklaunch bar, which is next to the start button, but is only a collection of shortcuts.

Does anyone know of a freeware utility to minimize outlook to the systray? The one I downloaded (4T tray minimizer)was only a 30 day trial.

Cheers,

HiFlyer
