Mini Carrier Remote connection woes 1

I am trying to log into one of my MCR using the P5 jumper. I need to get in to undo a change made Monday by our vendor that is causing issues. They are unable to get back on site until mid morning tomorrow. I am using Netterm, a straight thru serial cable, 9600 8 none 1, VT100, and have had no luck getting any responce what so ever. I have tried PuTTy and hyper terminal with the same lack of results.
Is there some special secret that I am unaware of?

Turns out we had a defective serial cable out of the packing. Swapped it out with different cable and logged in no problems.
