Mimicking the record indicator???

I need to find out using vbcode when a record is locked by another user. The record indicator has this info but where does it get it from?

Basically, I need to be able to create my own error message of: "Could not update, record currently locked by 'user' on machine 'xxxxx'."

Could anyone tell me how to tell when a record is locked and then find out who has it locked on which machine.

Please help this is very frustrating.

Thanks Brad,

The first one is quite useful.
Unfortunately, I do not need to know who has a file open I need to know when a user has another record open and therefore locked in Access.

Someone must know....please.
