Hi,

We are planning to migrate from Mercator 6.7.1 to DataStage TX 8.0. Please can any one let us know what are the things need to be done to migrate and what are the things that will be supported fron the existing 6.7.1 to 8.0 and what will not support. So as not to breakup the exisitng functionality.

Thanks,
smerck

We're planning the migration from 6.7.1 to 8.0.1 at the moment too - it looks like it should be a fairly painless upgrade.

One change in behaviour - if an output card is an item (e.g. a single blob field), then it won't trigger a functional map when empty.

Performance for high volumes of messages is up about 10% and the handling of XML messages (if you rebuild your map and trees in 8.0.1) is much better.

Other stuff to be aware of:
port numbers change
GnuPG is not included but can be downloaded and compiled
Java 1.4.2 or higher must be used
You need to get hold of a copy of j2ee.jar for MIME
SNMP agent doesn't seem to be available for 8.0.1 - possibly a licensing issue?

We found a couple of bugs, that were quickly resolved by IBM support:
the release notes state a memory leak in the class adpater
MIME adapter did not work (broken by the fix above)
the timeout for the SMTP adapter was removed

Only outstanding issue is some crashes possibly related to the GZIP adapter.

Hope this helps - what platform are you running on?
Olly.

Thanks for the valuable information.
We normally use MQ , Database and File Adapters. Also we use some security softwares in between the processing of the input file.
The maps are deployed on SunSolaris Platform. The maps are developed in Windows environment and build for the Sun Solaris Platform.

Thanks,
Smerck

We use a lot of MQ + Oracle database too, so they should be fairly similar - we're running on AIX though,

Cheers,
Olly.

Big issue if you don't rebuild your maps in 8.0.1, and you use the XML adapter: It doesn't exist in 8.0.1. Make sure you are going to 8.0.1 and not 8.0.

Make sure your Solaris version and other 3rd party products are supported with 8.0.1.

Don't us JAVA 1.5.x or MQ 6.0 (5.3 is OK) Oracle 9i or 10i OK. pointing to 32 bit libs.

Take the time to use the tuning capabilities in 8.0.1 for map rules and pagesize & count.

Hi Boca,
Thanks for the information. Can you please elobrate more on the Java , Mq and oracle point of view. As we are using many adapters like Database adapter (oracle) , MQ , File, rarely using email and ftp adapters.

We use many Security softwares which gets input thru MQ given by Mercator maps. and Output will be given back from these softwares to other maps in our system.

Also we are planning to migrate Orale 10 from oracle 9.

Thanks,
smerck

Just make sure you use the supported versions. Keep up-to-date on various service packs for all products.

MQ to MQ maps are very common and make sure you set PollWaitTimeMin to between 5 and 25, using the lowest number that doesn't jump CPU usage.
