I am in the process of researching and wanted to know how do I keep all the settings and files on my workstation when moving to a new domain controller.

I guess what I am asking is, when I migrated everyone computer to the new server, I want their settings to stay intact like nothing happen. Any suggestions or directions will help me a great deal.

USMT (User State Migration Tool) or a third part tool.

What settings are you trying to keep the same?

Thanks,
Andrew

I am trying to keep my files and settings. I have finished testing the FAST that is built in XP and it works great. The only problem I see is that it takes too long.

I am looking for something that is quick and fast. I just spent the past few hours messing with USMT. So far, I haven't had any success.

This has been resolved by using Files and Settings Transfer Wizard.

Start->Program Files->Accessories->System->Files amd Settings Transfer Wizard.

I followed the prompts and was able to restored my settings when moved to a new domain.

I also used ADMT tool to transfer the account and computers to the new domain. Then I used the Files and Settings Transfer.

If you use ADMT there is no need to use the File and Settings Transfer Wizard. ADMT has the ability to migrate both users AND computers. When you migrate computers the existing profile can be used in either domain when logging in.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark
