Migrating from Unix BSD to Exchange 5.5

We have planned to shift from our unix bsd mail server to exchange 5.5 and I have configured the Exchange server with all user accounts.
But I am seeking a method to shift unix mail directory(i.e. /var/mail folder) to Exchange server so that users will not loss any mail after transition.
I tried Directory Import in Exchange but it seems doesn't work.
Appreciate if anybody help me in this regard.

How many accounts?

Can you download mail into Outlook using POP3 from the BSD server? If so, configure Outlook to do so when you set them up for exchange and their mail will go to Outlooks default storage (the exchange servers mailbox for that user)

We have around 300 user account base.

We can download mails to Outlook,from BSd for each account seperately. But it will take time...
but do u mean downloading the whole /var/mail folder ? answer is no.
Otherthing is, once we downloaded the mails to a outlook account, how do we import them to the corresponding mail account at Exchange server?

I mean individually. Configure each desktop, first for exchange and then add the BSD server as a POP3 account. This will make Outlook transfer the users data from their BSD inbox to the Exchange inbox. Sorry that you have to do it for 300 people, perhaps it can be scripted.

I am still not clear...
Do u mean downloading mails to corresponding users pc..?
Actually I have informed all users to not to leave mails in the server as we are about to switch the mail server.
But until the last moment they might recieve mails from out side and for those who could not download mails from old server I need to transfer those mails to the new mail server(i.e.Exchange5.5)
I think u got a clear picture on my issue..
