Greetings,

I am about migrating from 2003 to 2010 Exchange.
I have:
- 120 mailboxes with 3 datastores.
- Front end and back end infrastcture.
- Couple of public folders.
- One domain, one site, one forest.

I am planning on having one server with all the roles in the lan and one edge server in the dmz.
Any good article that clarifies the migration through co-existence then removal of 2003 will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Okay, well OWA isn't going to work for migrated users, then.

As for why you only get internal mail, I can't say. There is a couple of routing group connectors that get created when you install 2010. Look and see if those are there and have the right source/target servers listed.

How do I put owa in the front?
For my email. I tested and found out I was able to send but not receive.

Route the firewall rule for 443 into the OWA box.

Send means the send connector is ok. Receive needs 25 routed to a bridgehead that accepts connections. Test a telnet on port 25 from outside and see if you get a 220 ok then look at the queue viewer.

58sniper - I found out the address of Owa for me (not legacy mailbox anymore)has changed to the new server (2010). So the internal Owa is working now. I know I will have to change on the firewall redirection to the new server when all are moved so it is accessible from outside.

As for receiving external emails I used the Exchange troubleshooting Assistant and run an Exchange mail Accepatance test. the reesult I goit is:
Error submitting mail:
Mail submission failed: Error message: The SMTP host was not specified..
Mail submission failed: Error message: The SMTP server requires a secure connection or the client was not authenticated. The server response was: 5.7.1 Client was not authenticated.

Zelandakh: I've done that and no success through EMC / Server Configuration / Hub Transport / permission groups and put a check mark on Anonymous users.
Any other ideas?

First, go back and undo that. Don't make changes to the default receive connector. Create a new one and make changes to that. You'll have more flexibility.

Next, use Get-RoutingGroupConnector to see if the correct source and target servers are listed for both.

That's what I got when I tried to create a new one:

Summary: 1 item(s). 0 succeeded, 1 failed.
Elapsed time: 00:00:00

Receive Connector Failed
Error:
The values that you specified for the Bindings and RemoteIPRanges parameters conflict with the settings on Receive connector "Exchange2010\Default exchange2010". A Receive connector must have a unique combination of a local IP address, port bindings, and remote IP address ranges. Change at least one of these values.

This is the result og Get-RoutingGroupConnector using the default receive connector:

exch2010-exch2003
exch2003-exch2010
interop rgc
interop rgc

I had to place a call to Microsoft and after about 5 hours on the phone finally I started receiving internet email. The issue was:
In the smtp properties I had my domain as for example mail.contoso.com instead of the fqdn of the backend exchange server. With 2003, it always worked that way, and the dns check always returned OK. But with 2010 in the environment that needed to be changed.
I tested to confirm moving another mailbox and sending/receiving internet mail and it is ok.
Thanks for all that helped.
Tag along, this is becoming a journey. Next is the edge server setup.

Thank you 58sniper.
Now I got to the cheezy part.
I setup my Edge server in the dmz and the sync between it and the 2010 hub went just fine. It said success.
I didn't redirect yet port 25 to the Edge server. But I am still able to send/receive internet mail ok.
So now I have another question about the Mutiple domain cert. Which server should I mention in there, the Edge or the internal 2010 hub?
Thank you.

That wouldn't affect my coexistence (2003/2010), would it? I am just trying to be on the safe side. Thanks.
