I have a customer who is not using a windows 2000 server however that server is the domain controller and the clients do log onto the domain but do not incorporate exchange, file or print sharing. I'll be moving them "off" of the 2000 server over to a windows 2003 small business server and they will be using exchange, file, print & sharepoint etc.

I just don't want to screw up their current set of user profiles. I did it once with another similar migration and I need to be certain not to do it again....what do I do?

If you wish to have SBS preserve the profiles you will need to do the following.

1. On each workstation create a local user account.
2. Log on using the newly created account to generate a profile.
3. Log out.
4. Log in as Domain Admin onto the PC.
5. If the domain user is a member of the local admin group, remove them.
6. Right click My Computer, Choose Properties.
7. Click the Advanced Tab.
8. Click Settings under Profiles.
9. Highlight the Domain Profile.
10. Click Copy To
11. Browse to the path of the local account.
12. Under Permitted to Use, select the local user ID.
13. Click OK.
14. Launch
The Connect Computer Wizard will now be able to convert the profile.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark
