On our MICS running s/w ver 1.0, if anyone on the system has set the forward feature, or forward on busy, every call coming in will be forwarded to that number/dn.

For example, if I turned my Call Forward on to our voicemail, then all incoming calls (for me or others) go directly to my voicemail.

What would cause this, and how can I fix it?

If you forward VIA the feature code it will automaically foward as you stated. If you would like to have it ring the phone before it goes to the voice mail dn. You must set the call foward no answer in programming and set the amount of rings before fowarding. The option are 2,3,4,6,8 i believe. Hope this is helpful

QbY,

In addition to what thetelephoneboy stated, it sounds like you have all lines ringing on all phones. This is what causes these calls to go directly to the vm box of the fowarded ext. If you would like to have ext's with vm, you'll need to not have your incomming lines ring at these exts. Just as a question in an attempt to help you with your options, why do you not have a "reception phone" or what is the application?

The reason for the lack of a reception telephone is because this installation is in a sales office, and the phones ring once generally before its picked up by a salesperson.

What we'd like to have is that if a call comes in, and someone asks for a particular person we could then transfer the call to their extension. That extension is set to forward to an external number or voicemail.

Thephoneboy probably has it right, but his solution wouldn't work in this office because they want to see all of the lines (so when they say, "Line 1"), you know the rest.

are you physically transfering calls or putting on hold and telling the norstar user "you have a call on line 1"? I think we can come up with a solution or give you your options but it will more than likely change the way you send calls the the appropriate person.

At the moment they are screaming, "Line One" I have time after time tried to tell them that we need to switch to a more PBX style system.

The ultimate goal of this thread is for me to find a way to permanently forward certain extensions to cell numbers (for sales people who are not in the office). So when I set up an extension, and forward it to an external number and the phone answerer transfers it to the extension it will send it to the cell. *But* we return to the original problem of all incoming calls being sent to the cell phone.

Off the subject, is there a way to create a "bogus extension" an extension without a telephone that could be forwarded to wherever.

Like stated above, when you have a phone ringing from an outside line the call will follow the forward path. so what you want to do is decide how to work to keep within the rules that the programming allows.

When I have a customer that insists that all lines must ring on all phones and that the individual extensions also need voicemail I set up the extensions to forward on no answer 6 rings to voicemail then set up either the Auto Attendent to answer on 4 rings or set up one phone/mailbox to answer on 4 rings. it doesn't matter as long as the calls are caught before the six ring timer on the other phones can take effect.

Software after rel 4.0 has two features you might be interested in; 1) hunt groups (hunt groups do not follow the forwarding of the individual extension) and extension off premisis forwarding that allows you to forward an individual phone to another number not on your system.
