Can I just change from a 4.0 software to a 6.1 by just replacing the flash card,or do I need to replace the module as well.If I replace the module and flash card can I restore the system programming back from the 4.0 backup to the 6.1.

You can go directly from 4.0 to 6.1 without changing out the module. However, if your module is a 1.0, I would replace it with a newer one. There are some problems with ole 1.0.
No, you cannot restore a 4.0 backup to a 6.1 system. The map files have to be an exact match.

pls ensure that the NVRAM cartridge is release 2 ...(rel 1 has all kinds of funny issues)
NVRAM is the cartridge where u install the PCMCIA card
