Can I use ODBC with Windows XP? I am writing a visual basic 6.0 application and want to use ODBC. I have tried assigning the Data Environment to an ODBC database, but the system will not allow me to.

Thanks.

Yes, you can use ODBC connections in XP.

What is it you are doing exactly and what errors do you get?

Thanks for responding.

In my data environment,

I right click on the connection to get properties,
Under Provider I select OLE DB Prov for ODBC drivers
On the connection tab, I selectg the database from the dropdown box
when I click on 'test connection' it doesn't do anything.
I click ok, but when I run the program, I get '-2147217842 (80040e4e) Operation was cancelled.

When I use Jet 4.0 it works fine.

I forgot to add...on a windows 2000 operating system, the ODBC works fine.

What version of MDAC are you using? I've seen other threads about older versions not working on XP.

Definitely upgrade to a newer version. I think the latest is 2.8, but I've heard of some people experiencing problems with it. Try 2.7 and see if that fixes it.

MDAC 2.8 is the latest version....

What type of DB are you connecting to? Are you able to connect to it outside of ODBC (via native drivers)?
