Lately I have had this problem. When I open MS Word 2000
I get an error that says "winword.exe has generated errors
and will be closed". The program then exits and a temp copy of that doc as well as the original will be in that directory. It happens to all word docs on that pc now. The pc is a Compaq 1200z laptop w/Win 2k, Office 2K and all the latest sevice packs for both. I have never had this problem before. The machine has been running for 6 months with no
problems before. Anyone have a clue? Thanks in advance folks! Keep up the great site.

As a first step, delete your Normal.dot file. Most likely the disease will be cured.

If not run office repair utility under Control Panel/Add Remove Programs.

Hi all. Well, I tried deleting the normal.dot file and also
performed the office repair utility. Neither one has fixed the problem. I will try uninstalling and reinstalling office
next. Thanks for helping and I will let you know if I have to reinstall Win2k. I believe that a friend of mine once had
this problem and he wound up reinstalling Win2k and office.
Fortunatly this is not my main pc. A complete reinstall would only be a big pain. However, I am moving
right now and any rebuilds will be a hassle. Later....

What are the details of the message?

If they mention VBE6.dll, then look in the following location for wfword2k.dot and/or pdfmaker.dot:

c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Startup
If you find one of them, remove it. If you find both, remove wfword2k first.

wfword2k if from winfax, and without it you cannot do mail merge to fax. The symantec site does have a repaired copy of this file.

pdfmaker is for saving files in pdf format. You can still save files in pdf format by telling the document to print and using the pdf program as the printer.

If the module causing the problem starts with the letters HP, or says something about spool32.dll, try removing and reinstalling your printer driver.

If these don't fix the problem, post the details of the error message, and I'll try to give you a solution.
