Hello,

I have a working RMS on MS SQL running on a MS 2000 server. The 2 POS station are runinig on MS 2000.
I have bought a magnetic swipe from POSX (model Xm90) USB.
The swipe is HID and it works with notepad and any other windows software. However, it does not work with RMS. Do I have to get a swipe that has an OPOS driver?
Any thoughts?

Many thanks,
Robert

You should get the ps\2 keyboard wedge model. It's your software with win 2000 usb driver issue.

Had the same problem when usb came out. Thought newer is better right? Keep it simple... Good luck.

Thanks for your quick response. Is there any USB driver version that would work and which I could update my windows 2000 with?

Check the documentation with your swipe reader. It might be a configuration of the start, seperator and end sentinal characters. Swipe a card in notepad, xxx out the card number and expiration date and post it here and I'll try to you whether or not your swipe reader is configured properly to work with Micros...

MAKE SURE YOU xxx OUT THE CARD ACCOUNT NUMBER AND EXPIRATION DATE. Also, don't add any additional carriage returns or line feeds. You may also want to enclose the entire swipe in quotes just to be safe. It should look something like the following:

"%Bxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx^SOMMERS/STEVE^xxxx0318173016005 ?;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx=xxxx0318173016005?
"

Note the embedded carriage return/line feed just prior to the end quote -- that's what my reader does.

Also, we use Magtek almost exclusively and do not have any issues with USB.

Steve,

Thanks for a quick response. I'll do what you asked me today evening.

Regards,
Robert

Steve,

Here is what the swipe returned:
"%Bxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx^SZPICZYNSKI/ROBERT E ^xxxx1010000001601000000948?;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx=xxxx1010506009480000?
"

To me it looks similar to yours.
One thing though. Since I was not able to go to my business today I tried that on my laptop that is running XP prof. and is connected to my POS. On top of it, I tried to do the payment with my credit card and it works (without the authorization since it is not setup for a payment gateway. However, I will be in my store tomorrow evening and I do the test as you asked me to on my POSs. Until then thanks for your help.

Regards,
Robert

Your track looks fine. The only other unknown is that I have worked with the 3700, 8700 & 9700 systems and the sample you sent will work with all three of these systems. I have not worked with the RMS system so I'm not certain that the configuration is the same - but I doubt they changed. There is a slight possiblilty that this system uses the HID interface instead of the keyboard emulation mode.

Steve,

Thanks for your help. It appeard that there was a problem with a phisical USB connection.
Everything works OK.

Regards,
Robert
