Hi,
I have just put our first 2000 server in the school and created a new domain. The head teacher and just wouldn't it be? Logged on only to find his e-mail didnt work. He is using a Windows 98 client and the e-mail is stored on his local machine. On first log on to the new domain outlook attempted to use the previous heads PST files for e-mail. Try as we might we cannot find his original pst files. Would they have been overwritten? We did find one 8mb file which is password protected and we can't crack it, whould this be any use?

I dunno if this will help, but I had exactly the same problem...

We had just installed a sk server and the user had always logged on locally to his 2k pro machine..after we installed server, his email wouldnt work and all his prior emains and address book were gone...heres how I fixed it...

Have the user log back on to the machine that contains his email and start outlook, then use File --> Export and go through all that, exporting what he wants to keep (this can take several minutes, so I suggest only exporting what he NEEDS, ie, not deleted items)

When it asks for an export location, pick a spot on the server or make a folder for it or whatever...just make sure its not a local location, and it is on a shared folder that he can get to when he logs on to the network...

Then log back on as his new account, the one that didnt have his email, an d use File --> Import and reimport the pst file from the network share....

Hope this helps, its how I fixed an identical problem...

Windows 98 should have retained the original PST files. Are you sure the PST was local? Some users locate their PSTs in their home directory (old server). Is exchange the mail server or do the clients just use internet mail with Outlook? Jim - Synnex Info Tech
