"Microsoft Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close."
The above error message is coming when i am opening Excel document. Also nothing is happening if i am selecting repair now option.

I have been on lots of support sites i have tried everything, its been hours of frustration i need help.

Does this happen when opening ANY Excel workbook or only THIS workbook?

What is the filename and extension?

Can you try opening it with OpenOffice or LibreOffice?
If so, you can just enter a space in a free cell, delete it again, and save. reopen in excel.

If you rename the file extension from .xlsx to .zip, does it open as an archive with 7-zip or WinRar or whatever you use for zip files? If not, your file is corrupted.
 
This error may occur if one of the following conditions is true:
- The Excel preferences are corrupted.
- Application files are corrupted.
- A user account profile is corrupted.
I suggest you to refer to this thread repair excel file
 
Did you try renaming the file extension to .zip?
