Microsoft Networking Logon Problem

After re-installing win 98 SE I no longer get the logon for MS networking dialogue, only get logon to MS Windows.
I've tried clearing & re installing all items in the network properties to no avail. This happened to me a few years ago and I found a fix for it on the MS Knowledge base. (this involved editing the registry) however I can't find this solution any more and can't remember what it was. Can anyone help?

Not so sound obvious, but you have added the client for MS networking and then dbl clicked it to add the DOMAIN you are wanting right?

Hi,
Yes I've got the domain name entered, (but left the 'log on to NT domain' check box unticked - I think this is right because the server I'm trying to logon to is running Win 2K - and i'm sure it used to work like this).
One other thing I've noticed is that although I can see the NIC card in the system and the network properties, when I run winipcfg it only shows the PPP ethernet adapter and not the Nic card (not sure if this is connected with this problem!)

This is not correct. If you want to log on to the network, this box definately needs to be checked.

To see all IP configs, you need to run winipcfg /all

The PPP ethernet adapter is the dial-up adapter. If connecting directly to the network, you do not need the dial-up adapter or its protocol.

I concur, you need to check the box and enter a domain Sorry for the dbl post above btw.

In order to connect to the domain you need the check off log into windows domain and type in the domain name. Make sure you spell it correctly. If it is a win2000 server make sure you put the extension on the end ex. .com, .local

If you can't see your nic in winipcfg it's because it doesn't have an IP address.

Sorry for the delay in replying! had a bit of a family crisis!.
Anyway, I've got to the bottom of it. It was the nic card that had worked loose. Now firmly in place and all is back to normal. Thanks all for your support.
