I run MS Defender (Beta 2) thinking its OK.
Well I had a rude awakening with popups and WinAntivirus ads starting to display.
I went back to Spybot and it found and cleared 155 spyware and threats, MS Defender scan reported nothing, zip, nada.
So how crap is MS Defender really?
Sorry, I was living in a dream world there for a while.

We used the original beta program and by a month or so had deleted it from the desktops we tried it on. We pretty much rely on spybot s&d most of the time. If you enable the advanced mode spybot really has grown to include many of the features that we used to use other programs such as hijack this and killboxes for. We have gone to imaging a base install for each of the variety of desktop and if spybot, adaware and a system internal process viewer cant remove one of these bugs reasonably... it is easier to copy personal folders to a server, image the drive and copy the personal files back rather than spending the time it would take to extracate the worst spywares.

After they upgraded it from Giant antispyware beta 1 to this windows defender and removed all the features I took it off as now it is a Microsoft engine with very little of the orginal features of giant left!

..and the Giant version has now timed out (31st July), so Defender is all M$ has to offer.
