I have copied the MSCOMCT2.OCX file to my machine and registered it successfully but I am still coming up with the following error when I try to place it on my form:

"You don't have the license required to use this ActiveX control"

Please could someone lend a hand

Are you trying to redistribute this control as part of a solution? I found an Knowledgebase article out at support.microsoft.com (Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 170692) that talks about the inability to distribute solutions containing the Calendar control without having the ODE (Office Developers Edition) which will properly license the control. Simply copying it doesn't help.

Also the control for the calendar is MSCAL.OCX.

If your talking the VB6 datepicker, then your problem may still exist, because it is no guarantee that a ActiveX control will work within Access especially the farther you go back in versions.

Hope this helps!

Where did you copy the ocx from? iirc you are only able to use the version that comes with A97.
To be honest, it's not a very good control. have a look on my website for a file called datepicker.
It has a pop up form that returns the date to the control it was called from.
All you need to do is copy the form into your database, then open it on a double click of the text bix you want to put the date in.

Thanks alot Jim & Ben for your replies, Jim I think you're right in that I don't not have ODE and so the licensing is not being done properly.

Ben I think I will take up your offer of using your datepicker, thanks.

Thanks again

Thorny,

Ben's Idea is probably what most people do end up doing as a workaround. It is simple enough to pull off, by creating a small form that shows the calendar control and uses some text and or comboboxes to complete the look and feel. Sync-ing the controls and passing data requires some coding, but is simple enough to do.
