Hello,
My company currently runs Microsoft Analysis Server. I believe that the analytical tools in Microsoft Excel must exist in Microsoft Analysis Server. Is this true? If so, can someone point me to some documentation for the use of these tools? Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Nick

No excel components exist in Analysis Services. If you are trying to use Excel as your Cube Browser/Report/Query Tool then you do this through Excel. Using Excel's Pivto Table Services you can interact with an Analysis Services cube. You connect using excel and specifying an external datasource.

OK, I have a clearer idea of what I'm looking for now. In doing some research, I have discovered that Cognos ( and O2OLAP ( provide the functionality I'm looking for. However, I would prefer to use native features of Analysis Services, if they exist, as opposed to one of these third-party programs. Is this possible?

Thanks!

Your looking for an OLAP reporting tool? Analysis Services doesn't really ship with a reporting query tool. There are a number of 3rd party tools and a Couple MS tools that accomplish this, which Cognow and 02OLAP are just 2 of. Others are Proclarity, Novaview, AlphaBlox, Arc View to name a couple. Microsoft is releasing it's BI Scorecards package.

The best way to determine which reporting query tool is best for your implementation is to first determine yours and your users needs.
