I'm having a very weird issue right now. I have about a handful of users who are receiving the error "Error Message: Error Accessing File. Network Connection May Have Been Lost." while they are working in Microsoft Access.

The only users who get this message are those in the Access DB. The weird thing with this error is that whenever they get it, it kicks them out of all Network Resources (Mapped Drives Disconnect, Outlook disconnections, etc). But other users in the same area (on the same switch) don't have any issues.

I've tried adding a few regedits to the server that doesn't auto disconnect users after 15 minutes.

I'm not sure what else to do. Our network engineer checked the switch and didn't find any issues on that side. Any suggestions?

I HOPE your database is SPLIT and the backend is on the server and a COPY of the frontend is on each user's machine.

The message they are getting can be possible corruption and that isn't good.

Check out this page:

And look at #26 and #31 specifically.

Thanks, I'm going to forward this information to the group that manages the Access DB's that are having issues.

Would a corrupt Access DB Cause the network connectivity to be lost?

Would a corrupt Access DB Cause the network connectivity to be lost?"

No, but a loss of network connectivity could cause a corrupt Access database (if someone is working in it at the time).

Hi Squill,

check out my FAQ:

This error can also occur if you have imported Forms containing code from another DB.

Alright, I've sat down with the users that are experiencing this issue (it always happens around 9:30am for some odd reason, as well as other various times during the day) and we watched them have the issue first hand. The DB locked up and then all of their Microsoft Office 2008 products locked up as well. This happened for about 20 seconds before everything sort of came back to life.

I mentioned to them that it may be a corrupt database and they didn't think that was the issue and I also checked with them to see if they have it split, and they do not. They don't even think they need to have it split.

I'm going to check with them again about the corruption issue. The more and more we look at it, the less and less we think it's a network/hardware issue.

They don't even think they need to have it split.
If it is being used by more than one user then it should be split. Show them this page for an explanation of why:

ALL multiuser databases should be split and NOBODY should be opening the same frontend file. They should have a copy on their machine. In fact, even single user databases should be split because then it is less likely they will ever lose all of their data due to a corrupt database.
