I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to this but I'll ask any way.
Micros RES 3700 5.5
A store that has 6 terms (i think they're WS5's, id have to verify). one died, I know they're all currently running windows ce, except the BOH.
Is they any reason I can't replace the term with a windows 7 non micros device? the licenses transfer between WS and win 32/64?

no reason you cant but a little to the setup if printers and cash drawers involved.

Why not have your broken terminal repaired? if its dead no power probably just the power supply
found online for under $100 and 15 min install job.

Yes sure you can switch to a Windows 7 device.
Don't forget to Switch in the network node from Workstation4 to Workstation.

There are only issues with the specific peripherals like magreader, printer work only serial or ip, external displays with opos.
attach all peripherals with opos drivers, it will take some time to test.

I'll have to verify the WS is a 5 and not a 4. the unit works, but the touchscreen does not. being that they run windows CE which I thought EOL was this past June. I figured a windows 7 unit would be a better choice. I normally don't work with Micros as much, This customer has three other stores with aloha which I support. but having talked with the person that normally does the support work for this location, I was told at first that they didn't have the correct files to make this work, then that they didn't have the right CAL, then last I was told the CAL package. I felt this was BS.

the unit is used a wall mount station for taking to go orders via phone. it has a kitchen printer and thermal attached to it. I already swapped the IDN interface card on the kitchen printer for a ethernet one and turned it into a network printer which IMO makes more sense anyways to eliminate the dependency. the thermal is rs232.

The customer already owns a couple of these as spares for the aloha locations,
Is there a install doc anywhere?
why set the network node to workstation and not win 32/64?

Windows 7 SP1

set static IP and gateway to match old WS
install
IE11
Adobe Reader 9
copy win32 folder from server
run the pre reqs
run cal, enter cal id, six digits on the left 1x2+4+6 (make sure you use leading 0's)
restarts a bunch of times, then done.

thanks for the help,

KS

installed without issue, thermal printer works just fine. now to figure out the mag reader and everything will be good

Everything works, in case anyone does a search for this in the future.
I installed the USB HID OPOS drivers from touch dynamics website and set the opos device name to 'IDTECH_SECUREMAG_USBHID'.
Thanks for the help.
