I was wondering what naming conventions are associated with the Micros terminals (for both Res and E7) and also how I might go about discovering the terminal nodes from a networking perspective.

Basically what I want to do is be able to push out a client application via the back office server to each workstation. Is this possible? Can I use CAL for this? Thanks.

Dump it into the CAL directory with installation and path values in a DAT file

Awesome, I will try that and let you know, thanks so much!

How would I get it to execute from the server, or would I have to manually run it on each workstation?

Contents of the CAL on the server is uploaded to each device type regularly (say 10 seconds) if it is not already on the remote. If you dump something there that is already on the remote terminal but has a different time stamp, reload the DB and the updates will push out. The DAT file is your instructions on installation / copy etc. Go through this site and look up VNC on WS4 or WS5, read the DAT file and it will all make sense.
